All 9th and 10th grade students at Roosevelt High School are MYP students. The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) provides a framework of academic challenge for students aged 11-16 years. The programme is devised to help students develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills to participate actively and responsibly in a changing and increasingly interrelated world. MYP courses focus on investigagtion, problem solving and analysis which lead to critical thinking. The MYP is designed to teach students to become independent learners who can recognize relationships between school subjects and the real world.

Characteristics of MYP Courses:

  • Concept-Based- learning is organized conceptually to help students understanding

  • Global Contexts- learning is connected to real-world contexts to make meaning

  • Inquiry-based- students learn by asking questions, researching, experimenting and experiencing

  • Interdisciplinary- learning is connected across subjects

  • Authentic- students learn to approach disciplines like practitioners

  • Service Learning: classroom learning is connected to principled action

  • Critical thinking, reading and writing in all subjects
